Emile de la Rey has been a member of the Wellington, New Zealand audio post-production community as a composer and sound editor since 2008.  He is currently Head of Machine Learning at Wingnut Films Productions where he pioneered the application of machine learning technology in the context of high quality film audio and music restoration for Peter Jackon’s “The Beatles: Get Back” Emmy Award-winning documentary series. He used Wingnut’s ground-breaking technology to provide Giles Martin and Sam Okell with the true-to-source separations of the original studio tapes for their 2022 Stereo & Dolby Atmos mixes of The Beatles: Revolver.

Emile is a 2022 Emmy Award winner and 2022 MPSE Golden Reel Award winner, along with the rest of the sound team, for his work on Peter Jackson’s “The Beatles: Get Back” series. He is also a 2019 MPSE Golden Reel Award winner, for his work on Peter Jackson’s “They Shall Not Grow Old”, in the role of Supervising Dialogue Editor. He was a 2017 AACTA award nominee for Best Sound in Television for ABC’s “Cleverman” series, and a 2015 APRA award nominee for “Best Original Music in a Series” as composer for Gaylene Preston’s “Hope and Wire” series.

Emile has edited dialogue for more than 20 feature films, documentaries and television series, most of which were mixed and print-mastered in the world-class mix theaters at Park Road Post-Production.   He has also delivered sound effects, ambience and foley for short films, and feature length documentaries.

A proven track record of high-quality workmanship has seen him take on challenging editorial tasks with superb results.  Emile enjoys working as part of an editing team as much as being a supervisor for teams, with a thorough grasp of the cutting edge workflows involved in delivering the best possible dialogue and sound effects tracks to the mix stage.
